My Life as a Pole Athlete

Dance Background: No dance background. I played volleyball through middle school and two years of high school (ages 13-17).
First time Pole Dance: I started pole dancing in 2004 at a studio in Los Angeles called Sheila's Kelley's S Factor, which was at the time, one of the only places in the USA that taught pole movement. I was just about to turn 30 and felt I needed to do some form of fitness (prior to S Factor, I hadn't exercises since I was about 17).
Favorite Pole Trick: Any and all handsprings.
Most inspiring Pole Athlete: Kelly Yvonne, my choreographer and coach. While a phenomenal classically-trained dancer, Kelly is way more than an 'athlete,' but an artist and creative visionary in every respect of the word.
Training Times: 5-6 days per week, and anywhere from 2-7 hours in a day, per training session.
How I define Pole Dance: Pole dance is a form of movement done on or around a vertical pole. While it has its origins in exotic dance clubs, the modern form can also combine elements of burlesque and striptease, classical dance, gymnastics, Chinese pole and other circus art forms.
Pole Dance is...: Artistry, Empowerment, Strength
Pole Dance vs. Pole Fitness: Pole Dance is movement with expression and artistry. Pole Fitness is movement that achieves the goals of physical fitness or technical execution. However, both Pole Dance and Pole Fitness can be effectively combined together.
Be a Dancer or Judge: Both.
Titles I hold: US Pole Dance Champion 2011, Pole Art 2012 Runner-Up, USPDF West Coast Champion 2010, 2010 California Pole Dance Champion, 2010 East Meets West 'Pole-AM' Champion.
Reason to quit Pole Dancing: I will take a hiatus when I decide to have children...but the hiatus won't be long!
